The word dão means 'they give' in Portuguese and as we walk and connect with all this life and the conditions for life we enter into a reciprocal relationship. As hikers we give thanks and bring attention to the river and its precious nature. The list of what the river gives is long; water, energy, habitat, enchantment, cooling, reflection etc. etc.
The Caminho do Dão is an ode to the Dão river and everything that lies at the base of her existence. By bringing attention to her with every Caminho we might be taking steps towards being better caretakers of this river and land she flows through.
